Review | Etude House Shine Chic Lip Lacquer OR203 Vintage Carrot

shine chic

In April of 2018, Etude House came out with a line of Matte Chic Lip Lacquers in collaboration with Red Velvet, their new endorsers. I was a bit confused at the name of the product at first (aren’t lacquers typically shiny?) but quickly forgot about them from my lack of interest; as someone with dry skin and dry lips, the last thing that I wanted was a matte liquid lipstick.

So when Etude House released their Shine Chic Lip Lacquer, I was intrigued. When they later showed a piece of video claiming that this moist, shiny product was also transfer-proof (which as we all know, is one major drawback of lipgloss), I knew had to try it. It’s been some time since its release, but I finally picked one up to play around with– in Joy’s color, of course, though Etude House released 10 shades to chose from. And I’ve got to say, its one of the best lip tints I’ve ever tried.

This does include a fruit fragrance that’s very prominent upon closely sniffing the tube, but it goes away quickly after application and can’t be detected at all for the duration of wear. If you have sensitive skin, keep this in mind when purchasing. Other than that, there’s a large amount of plant and fruit extracts in this product, and different oils/butters (jojoba oil, avocado oil, shea butter) to contribute to the moist, glowy look Etude House is going for.

Amount of Product: 3.2 g / 0.11 oz

Price: 12,000 ₩, or $14.40 on the Etude House US website.

doe foot applicator

The lip lacquer has a flat-type doe foot applicator. Nothing too fancy. It gets the job done well, and is just flexible enough to spread the product evenly and precisely while still being easy to use. The shape of the tip is similar to Pony Effect’s Favorite Fluid Lip Tint, which is my holy grail tint, and they perform in pretty much the same way. I do find that the applicator tends to pick up a bit too much product for my liking, so I recommend wiping off the excess on the mouth of the tube.

hand swatch

hand tint

It swatches smoothly and has a very emollient texture. As you can see, it quickly leaves a definitive stain; I swiped the product off only a few seconds after swatching. Hopefully this contributes to the lasting power.

Performance: This color, OR203, is opaque in one swipe and easily spreadable with a finger for a gradated look. I can’t say much about the consistency of the pigmentation across all of the shades in the range, but in terms of color, this is a solid hit. It’s relatively lightweight, doesn’t make my lips stick together, and though it’s not as shiny as Etude House advertises, it has a beautiful moist finish. I’m not particularly fond of a super bold lip though, so I sheered it out with my finger in the photo. Nonetheless, the color is still very pretty!my mouth lol

Now, the transfer claim.

… There is none! I was shocked to see that after waiting a few minutes for the lip lacquer to “dry down” (though unlike matte liquid lipsticks, it doesn’t actually “dry”, more “sets”) and kissing the back of my hand, absolutely no color was left on my skin. While the color didn’t transfer, it did leave a faint oily imprint, so it’s not completely transfer proof… But the bottom line is, the color doesn’t smear anywhere, so goodbye to the embarrassing lipstick stains on my teacups.

As time went on, my lips didn’t feel dry or cracked; only comfortably moisturized. After 6 hours, the moist feeling was gone, and it felt like I had nothing on my lips. Despite this, the color still lingered from the tint, and wasn’t patchy.

Did it live up to its claims? I say yes! Etude House’s Shine Chic Lip Lacquer is transfer-proof, lightweight, long-lasting, non-sticky, and moist.

Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, absolutely.

You purchase this product directly from the Etude House website, though YesStyle carries it as well. Let me know if you give this a try, or if you’ve tried this before!
